Ex- FBI chief James the former director has pleaded not guilty to making false statements to US legislators and obstructing a congressional proceeding.

Mr Comey's legal representative submitted the response representing him in a national courtroom in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday morning.

Patrick Fitzgerald announced he would attempt to have the legal matter terminated for various reasons including that his the accused, a detractor of President Donald Trump, was being singled out.

The former director was formally accused just days after the former president pressured his top legal official to move forward against him.

Judicial Process

In court on Wednesday, the defense counsel the legal representative told the judge they planned to submit several petitions to terminate the case before a legal hearing, claiming the prosecution was spiteful and that a federal prosecutor was improperly appointed to take over the legal matter.

The former director's proceedings was originally overseen by a Virginia prosecutor, who left his position under scrutiny from Donald Trump after his examination into another rival - NY AG Letitia James - did not succeed to initiate prosecution.

Courtroom Atmosphere

James Comey appeared in good spirits as he entered the courtroom on Wednesday, conversing with his legal team and being lighthearted. He was accompanied by his wife, his wife and daughter Maureen, a federal prosecutor who the previous administration dismissed.

Upon hearing to the magistrate recite his rights and the pair of allegations against him in court on Wednesday, the defendant was asked if he comprehended the accusations.

"I do your honour. Appreciate it," he stated to the judge.

Previous Events

James Comey was the head of the FBI from four years and was terminated about a few months into the former president's first administration as president. At the time, the director was directing an investigation into foreign election meddling and whether there were any relationships between Moscow and the election effort.

Throughout his leadership, James Comey sparked a backlash from the Democratic party when he announced just immediately preceding the 2016 presidential election that he was probing presidential nominee the candidate's use of a non-governmental email account. Indictments against Hillary Clinton were not pursued, resulting in negative feedback from the Republican party as well.

Present Charges

Government attorneys assert the former director lied to Congress during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing in recent years when he was being interrogated about both the previous examination as well as the Russia election probe. They allege he misled the Senate by saying he had not permitted a person at the FBI to disclose to news outlets information about the FBI investigations.

Government lawyers also allege James Comey of "improperly attempting to affect, block and impede" the legislative group by providing untrue information to it.

Individual Responses

In a video the former director shared to his social media after he was accused, he declared he was wrongly accused and accused the former president of behaving like a "tyrant".

"We have known for considerable time that there are ramifications to opposing Mr Trump," he stated. "We refuse to live on our kneeling."
"I have done nothing wrong," he continued. "Thus initiate a court case."

The accusations against the former director came after Trump published on digital channels calling for his top legal official, Ms Bondi, prosecute Mr Comey and other people.
